We have been building our mileage for a couple weeks now, and I know that I am starting to feel a bit tired. Everyone needs to pay close attention to the messages that your body is sending you. It’s important to get rest and to eat carefully. You are pushing your body hard, and you need to take care of it. We still have a lot more training to go, and sometimes if you are getting overly tired, a bit of rest is better than going out and doing an extra ride, or pushing through some hard interval workout. Also, factor in the stress of your life a bit. Sometimes less is more. I have a good friend who told me that you are never over-trained, just under-rested. There is a lot of wisdom in that statement.
While our bodies are starting to get tired, so are our bikes! We’ve been training a lot, and logging a lot of miles. It’s time to get that bike a check up. Please make sure that your chain is still good, that your tires are fresh, and that your wheels are true. We are being just as hard on our equipment as we are on our bodies. By taking these small steps now, we can help prevent having issues out on the road.
So, this is the last week of our building period. This is going to be a BIG ride on Sunday. Please be prepared. It will most likely be HOT, and it is HILLY. Choose your group carefully. Rest on Saturday night. If you are feeling especially tired, back off on Saturday’s ride. We want everyone to finish this ride. It is a difficult ride, but it’s also beautiful. The greatest part will be finishing another training block and getting one step closer to our goal. Just know that next week will be a relaxing time to recover.
See you Sunday!
