New Bike!

March 31st, 2008 · 2 Comments

I got a beautiful new GIANT TCR ISP bike with the High Road Sports paint scheme. It is amazing. I am also trying out a new compact crank set from Shimano. It is their new Ultegra SL and is equally beautiful. The crank set is a darker color and matches the paint scheme beautifully. More …

Rancho Santa Fe to Palomar Mountain Ride

March 17th, 2008 · No Comments

On Saturday I went on a ride from Rancho Santa Fe to Palomar Mountain and back. It is a round trip of about 90 miles, but it was super windy, and COLD!

I have been riding a bit, but I have just started to do some longer rides. This was far and away the longest ride that I have done since last year. It was even more difficult because of all the climbing. More …

Tour of California

March 6th, 2008 · No Comments

I spent the last couple weeks working at the Tour of California. It was a great, but nerve wracking experience. I have been racing my bike forever, but I have never seen a bike race from the inside perspective that I had at the Tour of California. I took on two roles, my first was as a field reporter for Versus, and my second was as a VIP driver in the caravan. More …

Hanging out With Steve Hed

February 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Last week the High Road Team was in town getting tested in the wind tunnel. I went into go visit with my friends from GIANT and from the team. I picked up a new team bike from High Road, and I am excited to start riding it!

I haven’t been to a wind tunnel in years, and so it was an awesome experience to be able to watch the aero testing of the team. I had the fortune of hanging out with Steve Hed, who is an icon in cycling, having come up with the first real road disc wheel. He is the most sought after person to work on aero bike position. Fiesta Island Time Trials

February 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday I went to the Fiesta Island Time Trial in San Diego. It was the first time that I have ever been to a race as a coach, and not as an athlete. I have to admit, there was a part of me that missed the excitement. I found myself getting nervous anticipating the starts of the athletes I work with! More …

Starting Out

January 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Lately, I have had a lot of women asking me about learning to ride. It’s exciting to me that so many people are interested in getting involved in cycling. I’ve been doing it for so long that sometimes I forget about what it feels like to be just starting out. But, that being said, I can vividly remember my first time on clipless pedals, and also learning how to shift, brake and basically just get comfortable. More …

Workout Basics

January 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I often go out for rides just to enjoy the scenery and company, but sometimes when I’m alone I like to add some intensity to my ride. I have spent so many years training and racing, that now I like to go hard to burn off energy and keep myself sharp enough to keep up on the local group rides.

I would suggest that anyone who is interested in a real training program should hire a coach to help them stay motivated and on target. But, there are little tricks that you can use to spice up and intensify your workouts. More …
